About Me

Welcome to The Milky Life,

Hi!

I’m Carla, a registered Midwife, Neonatal Nurse, IBCLC, also known as a Lactation Consultant, and a Tongue Tie Practitioner based in Brighton & Hove, I cover a large radius of East and West Sussex, and where possible I also travel further afield.

Keep reading to find out about me, my experience, qualifications, and how The Milky Life has come about.

In 2008 I became a registered nurse, qualifying in Spain where I worked in paediatric and neonatal departments. I moved to the UK to study midwifery in London, qualifying and registering as a midwife in 2012. Since then, I have worked in all maternity departments throughout my career.

In 2019 I became a Tongue-Tie Practitioner, and started a Specialist Infant Feeding service for BSUH Trust, working in the community (mainly) in the Brighton & Hove area. I have now left midwifery and currently work as a Neonatal Nurse in Brighton’s Trevor Mann Baby Unit.

I have two wonderful daughters, one born via c-section and one at home. I feel very fortunate to have breastfed both well into their toddlerhood years. This wasn’t always easy, both had tongue-ties, I suffered from oversupply, my second one really suffered with teething and so did my nipples - Ouch!

Asking for help when I needed it the most and surrounding myself with other breastfeeding parents was the start of my Milky Life journey.

There is a massive gap in the support that families get during the postnatal period, and I believe this is affecting the healthy brain development of future generations. Modern society is raising parents who aren’t following their parental instincts. Breastfeeding is a natural and instinctive act, however, it is a skill that you and your baby need to learn - this is where I come in.

My aim is to not just help you with your feeding issues, but also support you in your journey through the fourth trimester so that you don’t just survive it, but also enjoy it!
